History of Pictures and Mirrors

fatherandsonBWThis story begins over Four Decades ago on the East coast of Scotland in a town called Dundee situated on the banks of the River Tay. Scotland is a country world famous for so many things...it's Landscape...it's Heritage...it's Whisky...and it's people...many of whom have helped in the success of Pictures and Mirrors International.

Arno Heyder Sr. learned the trade of silvering mirror in a small crudely built stone workshop. "In those days, we would coat glass with silver nitrate and bevel the mirrors by hand using a large belt sander. This process is now long but forgotten." recalls Mr. Arno.

He also recalls that making the mirror was only half the operation. He then had to sell it. Weekends were spent visiting prospective buyers, on the East coast of Scotland, with a quality product and a price list that was always done with a sharp pencil.

By listening to his customer's requests, he started adding frames to his mirrors.

Framed mirrors were a success and framed paintings soon followed.

The business continued to grow and expand. The company bought a huge factory, added more trucks, and over 300 employees. Over the years, Pictures and Mirrors International became on of the largest manufactures of framed art and mirrors in the United Kingdom.

The company had a long association with art publishers and suppliers in the America. Mr. Arno had developed many friendships, so when he hinted that he wanted to set up a plant in the U.S.A., he was overwhelmed with their reaction. The rest, as they say, is history.

Pictures and Mirrors International: from humble beginnings on the banks of the River Tay in Scotland, then across the Atlantic Ocean to continue the story in America.
